SAMPLE LECTURE TOPICS FOR SSB’s

Lectures are conducted on the third day of the services selection board. The SSB lectures are for duration of 5 minutes. The candidate is to pick up a chit from a box of many chits, on which is written a topic. The candidate gets around three to five minutes to prepare after which he is to deliver a lecture to an audience of your own batch mates. The most important thing is to deliver the speech in an uninterrupted and confident manner. To achieve this, my sincere advice is to stop seeing the people sitting ahead of you as people of great knowledge or wisdom. Just imagine that they are some bunch of illiterate peasants who have no clue about what you are talking. So talk confidently and tell anything and everything you know about. By using your hands and head to have a fine body language will enable you to show that you are a very confident person…

Believe that those people sitting ahead of you are unaware of the information that you are going to give so make a bold statement by speaking loudly and confidently. Wrong facts will not fetch negative marks so go ahead and bombard with ….

The best way to prepare for the lectures is by updating yourself on all the current events. My sincere advice is to go through the entire Outlook, India today, The Week, etc., magazines of the last two to three months.

*      India’s stand on terrorism

*      Global economic recession

*      Growth of women in this century

*      Unemployment and job cuts

Hai kapil, nice to hear that my blog has been useful to you…it is my endeavour to help all those eager aspirants the required guidance that they require before going for ssb. as i have told in my articles that ssb do not expect you to do something which are not beyond your control, they actually test your original self, what kind of a person you are, what kind of qualities do you have, are you a true and honest person etc… due to my busy shedule for the past few days i havent posted any articles..very soon i will be posting some articles on psychoanalytical tests.

all the best for your preparation…

Ajay it will be very difficult for me to give you coaching with my busy schedule…But i would rather recommend you go through my entire blog to gain knowledge and how to go about SSB.

12 Ajay July 9, 2009 at 5:48 am

Hi Kumar,

I read your blog completely and it was very knowledgeble and very easy to understand and i am feeling very confident now that i can crack SSB if things goes well with me but i am only more concerned about the Screening test i.e STAGE 1 where we have to give one aptitute test and picture perception and discussion test.when it comes to aptitute there are some questions based on verbal and non-verbal fine but about picture perception and discussion test i would like to know that how should we approach for that test like what kind of pictures they will show us and based on that picture how should we approach in front of everyone.

Reply

13 Kumar July 12, 2009 at 10:39 am

THE PICTURE PERCEPTION TESTS ARE VERY SIMPLE . BY SIMPLE I MEAN THAT THE PICTURES WILL BE MORE OF CARTOON PICTURES WHERE SOME PERSON WILL BE STANDING OR DOING SOME WORK IN A PARTICULAR ENVIRONMENT. YOU WILL HAVE TO EMPHASISE ON THAT PARTICULAR SITUATION. FOR EXAMPLE, FOR A PICTURE WHERE A BOY IS STANDING ON A BRIDGE AND LOOKING DOWN YOU MAY WRITE A STORY LIKE “A BOY IS CURRENTLY LOOKING AT AN OLD MAN WHO HAD FALLEN BY MISTAKE OFF THE BRIDGE, AND IS GOING TO MAKE A JUMP AND SAVE THAT OLD MAN” OR FOR A STORY WHERE A MAN IS STANDING WITH A KNIFE AND BLOOD DROPPING FROM IT, YOU MAY WRITE A STORY AS “RAM WAS A PATRIOTIC NCC CADET WHO WHEN PRACTISING FOR THE REPUBLIC DAY PARADE SEES A MAN WITH SOME STRANGE KIND OF EQUIPMENTS AND TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS OF SUSPECIOUS ITEMS…RAM FOLLOWS THE MAN TO HIS HOUSE AND FINDS OUT THAT HE WAS A TERRORIST AND WAS PLANNING TO BOMBARD THE RED FORT. NOW SUDDENLY THAT TERRORIST SEES RAM AND COMES WITH A KNIFE TO KILL RAM. RAM FIGHTS WITH THAT MAN IN THE FIGHT AND SAVES HIS NATION”. THIS IS HOW YOU MUST TRY TO WRITE STORIES OR SENTENCES FROM THE WORDS. YOUR IDEAS MUST BE POSITIVE AND MUST NOT HAVE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS. THE HERO OF THE STORY WHICH YOU WRITE MUST BE A IMAGINERY “YOU”. HENCE DEPICT GOOD QUALITIES FOR YOUR HERO AND SHOW HIM AS A POSITIVE, PATRIOTIC AND GOOD PERSON…

Ankush frankly speaking I do not think that coaching for SSB is required. But yes, if you have the luxury to stay in some place where SSB coaching is being given then yes, you may by all means go for it. But do not in any circumstance think that if you go for SSB coaching then you will surely succeed … SSB is a place where you are judged by what you are…what kind of a person you are…so by taking coaching you may learn the tactics of group discussion and lectures but you can not change your character. So be your natural self and be truthful to the board. I advice you to go through my replies to the comments posted in this blog on various articles…That way you may learn from others doubts also…all the best for your SSB

pls,
tell me about some psychological qustions they asked in interview……..and how should i prepare

Reply

18 Kumar July 13, 2009 at 11:53 am

Dear Anil, psychological questions are generally not asked in interviews…but they are tested in writing. The two main tests in psychological tests are
*verbal
*non verbal
In non verbal it is a test if IQ… so prepare your self from Competition success review magazine’s question banks for IAS exam IQ test. these tests are multiple choice questions. you just have to tick the right answer. I promise it would not be that difficult. Now coming to verbal tests, there are two types of verbal tests 1. PICTURE PERCEPTION TEST and 2.SENTENCE FORMING TESTS…
In picture perception tests you will be shown some cartoon pictures and given a minute’s time to write a story about it. My previous replies to comments in this article have some example of these tests. So plz go through them.
And in sentence forming , you will be flashed a word for 2 seconds and you must write a sentence o9n that word in 15 minutes. you will have to write a total of 60 sentences. that is you will be shown 60 words. you must endeavor to project the positives in you through these stories and these sentences.

it was nice to read back from you sir.i would be going for ssb on 28 july at dehradun as this would be my second attempt at ssb i am really nervous. i feel somewhere i lack in physical stamina coz i have good communication skills and aptitude last time also i was conferenced out…….do you think i should work out or something else to be well prepared or my skills could see me through this ssb……and also sir one more question numerous times it is asked about your weakness and also the reasons for your elimination last time around so sir what could be the possible answers for them coz when ever one is conferenced out they dont give the reasons for his elimination…..i would look forward to your reply sir

25 Kumar July 20, 2009 at 2:17 pm

ankush you are thinking that you may be physically unfit, in that case what i think is that you may be over weight or you may have not done your group tasks with high josh and spirit( shouting the war cries and helping your group members) may be this time you may try to over come these…regarding your weakness you can not reveal some weaknesses like fear, habit of stealing…you have to reveal such weakness that would not affect your career and which could be easily improved upon…example of some weakness are not having fluency in English, your vocabulary, your eating habits, you trust people very soon, becoming friends with people at a first instance, inability to tolerate childishness, being serious always..etc…

basic knowledge about our armed forces is a must to all indians…since you are appearing for joining the defence forces you must know more than what normal people must know…you must be acquinting yourself with the following…

1.RANK STRUCTURE
2.PAY BSTRUCTURE
3.LATEST ACQUISITIONS
4.BUDGET ALLOCATION
5.NAMES OF CHIEFS
6.NAMES OF NAVAL SHIPS, AIRCRAFT CARRIER
7.NAMES OF SOME REGIMENTS,TRAINING,ETC
8.NAMES OF SOME OF THE AIRCRAFT THAT WE HAVE GOT IN AIR FORCE,HELICOPTERS,ETC
9.ANY THING MORE YOU CAN FIND OUT THAT IS AN ADDED ADVANTAGE
10.VARIOUS TRAINING ACADEMIES AND VARIOUS ENTRIES AVAILABLE FOR ENTRY IN THE ARMED FORCES

Please help me out sir, as to what i should do next.

Thanking you in advance.

many students face this problem in the course starting in January…as for as this problem of your’s i generally suggest people that they must take admission in a college in their place, because getting call letter, clearing screening and clearing SSB and then clearing medical followed by merit list is all a very long process…why take chance of your life ? so take an admission and then do this in your own time…if you get selected then well and good, just be happy that you have paid the fee for the college for one year only…b’cos after joining NDA you will never again pay fee in your life…so this is what i suggest you..
1. take admission
2. pay fee for one year
3. then go for SSB
4.get selected in SSB
5.thankyou, bye bye, to your college
6. go to NDA

Is it fine my friend…

35 santhosh July 24, 2009 at 11:51 am

respected sir,
I have got selected in the written exam of nda2009 held on april 19. But i have not received any call letter from the concerned people.this has worried me.is there any other means to know when is my ssb interview.since i am in bengaluru can i get the center
in bengaluru itself.
and since there is a delay in receiving call letter,i ve taken up medical course in karnataka. I have to submit my original certificates to the college.will this not affect my interview in ssb?so,please go through my queries and kindly give the solution.

Reply

36 Kumar July 24, 2009 at 7:00 pm

You can contact headquarters and ask them when is your ssb. getting your center in Begngaluru is not in any ones hand, if you get it its well and good. I would say that where ever you get you must put in your best effort. at the time of SSB you have to produce your original certificates. You can talk with your college authorities stating your situation and ask them to give your certificates when you are going for the SSb. I think they will consider you.

37 Kumar July 25, 2009 at 9:13 am

dear santhosh, it is my sincere advice that you do your medical course and not to waver your mind in nda because, i personally feel that medical course is any time better…if it is your ambition to join defence forces then you may join after finishing your medicine as a doctor…you can join directly as a captain -lieutinent-flt lieutinent …that is one rank above what you become on commissioning from ima, ifa, ina…i have seen many cases of cadets who join the academy leaving medical studies and after sometimes they end up leaving academy because they realise that to be a doctor would be better and at that situation face problems out side also…but all this is from my experience and knowledge only…you may be different…so it is up to you to decide…as a doctor you may get Rs14,000 per month as non practising allowance which others will not get in the armed forces…

Reply

42 Kumar July 26, 2009 at 6:01 pm

dear friend,
the tactics of story writing is to be what you are?it is a test to find out what your inner self is saying in a particular situation…for example in a scene of car accident a good person rushes to help everyone at the same time a bad person runs away from that scene…in the same way in every particular situation a person thinks and behaves in a particular way…it is up to you to decide and behave which way you want to be and to write the same in the form of a story…what ever story you write is a reflection of your character ,so be your stories good and meaningful …let each story of yours carry some good qualities about you and convey to the examiner that you will behave in that way in a real life situation

43 Sanju sharma July 26, 2009 at 9:25 pm

Hi friends

I do not have required weight it is low could it be a problem and when medical exam would be conducted

Reply

44 Kumar July 27, 2009 at 4:15 pm

Not at all my dear friend, less weight is never a problem…if you are underweight by more than 5% then, may be they may tell you to put on some weight, but you will never be rejected for that reason. But yes, overweight is always looked down and in some extreme cases they may even be rejected.

YOU WILL GET A DEGREE CERTIFICATE FROM JAWAHARLAL NEHRU UNIVERSITY…YOU MAY OPT FOR B.Sc. IN IT, PHY- CHE- MAT, NAVAL SCIENCE( IF FROM NAVAL ACADEMY), B.A FOR ARTS AND COMMERCE STUDENTS (ONLY FOR JOINING ARMY) . YOU WILL NOT GET TO DO B.E FROM NDA. AFTER 3 YEARS OF STUDIES AND TRAINING YOU WILL GET TRAINING FOR 1 YEAR IN AFA/ IMA/ NAVY FOR 1 YEAR OF PROFESSIONAL TRAINING, AT THE COMPLETION OF WHICH YOU WILL BE COMMISSIONED INTO THE ARMED FORCES . IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE ,THEN IT IS POSSIBLE TO QUIT ONLY TILL FIRST 1MONTH OF JOINING AT NDA . IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE ANY TIME AFTERWARDS THEN YOU MAY HAVE TO PAY HUGE SUM OF MONEY WHICH THE GOVERNMENT HAD SPENT ON YOU. LEAVING AFTER GETTING COMMISSIONED IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE. THE ARMED FORCES ARE VERY MUCH SHORT OF OFFICERS, AND IN NO COST THEY WILL ALLOW YOU TO QUIT BEFORE 20YRS OF MINIMUM SERVICE, EXCEPT IN SOME VERY EXTRAORDINARY SITUATION…I HOPE I HAVE CLEARED YOUR DOUBT

51 Rajeef July 31, 2009 at 9:40 am

Respected sir,
Please allow me to clarify myself. I have not written NDA Exam. I have directly applied for ssb. ( using the 10+2 admission form available in the website ” http://www.nausena-bharti.nic.in“).
And i did another mistake, I forgot to attach an acknowledgement card. And so, i have no idea, whether my application form has reached there or not.!! And moreover i have registred in a college in my native area, and classes are starting over there from august 10th. I hope I have not made it too lengthy. Please advice me sir.

Reply

52 Kumar July 31, 2009 at 11:04 am

RAJEEF ,NOW I GOT YOUR POINT…ITS VERY SIMILAR TO THAT OF NDA BUT ONE THING THAT I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU HERE IS THAT, THE CRITERIA FOR 10+2 ENTRY IS YOUR BOARD EXAM PCM %…NOW EVERY TIME SO MANY STUDENTS LIKE YOU APPLY FOR THIS COURSE…THOUGH THE MIN PCM% IS 70%( AS FAR AS I REMEMBER) NOW WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT, THE INTEGRATED HEADQUARTERS SETS A CUT OFF PERCENTAGE AND CALLS STUDENTS FOR SSB ,THOSE WHO HAVE SCORED ABOVE THAT PARTICULAR PERCENTAGE…MAY BE 89% ALSO. SO YOU GETTING A CALL LETTER DEPENDS ON THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WITH HIGH PERCENTAGE WHO HAVE APPLIED FOR THIS COURSE. AND SINCE YOU HAVE NOT TOLD ME YOUR % I CAN NOT TELL YOU TO KEEP WAITING FOR THIS, WHILE THE NORMAL ADMISSIONS IN ENGINEERING COLLEGES ARE GETTING OVER. BUT ANY WAYS THE LETTERS HAVE REACHED GUYS WHO HAVE SCORED 96% LAST WEEK…SO YOU MAY EXPECT IT IN THE NEAR FUTURE…

53 Rajeef July 31, 2009 at 11:19 am

Thanks a lot sir.
And i have PCM aggr. 74.3%.
But after reading your response, i think I must wait a long while for getting my call letter( taking into consideration my pcm % ). Meanwhile engg. classes getting started on 10th. So, even if i get the call letter, either i must take a leave for 10 days, or upon denial, i will have to take T.C and go for interview ( of which there is no guarantee that I may get through.)!!!!!.

Correct me if i am wrong sir, but I heard last year, out of 300 students, only 2 of them were selected ?
even though there were thousands of vacancies.!!!!!

Reply

54 Kumar August 1, 2009 at 7:53 am

YOU ARE DEFINITRLY WRONG RAJEEF, WHAT YOU HAVE HEARED MAY BE THE CASE OF A PARTICULAR SSB BOARD…FOR EXAMPLE THE SSB IS CONDUCTED IN BATCHES…FOR A PARTICLAR COURSE LIKE 10+2 TECH OF ARMY MAY BE 8 TO 10 BATCHES OF SSB MAY BE CONDUCTED IN BHOPAL, ALLAHABAD, BANGALORE …AND IN EACH BATCH AROUND 60 TO 100 STUDENTS ARE CALLED IN FOR SSB…SOME SCREENED OUT…SOME MEDICALLY REJECTED…SOME BOARD OUT…ETC ETC. BUT AT LAST THESE RESULTS ARE SENT TO DELHI AND A MERIT LIST IS PREPARED IN WHICH, SOME MAY NOT GET IN TO MERIT AND BE LEFT NOT SELECTED OR PLACED IN WAITING LIST. AND THERE IS NO CHANCE THAT ONLY 2 CADETS WILL GO TO ACADEMY AND TRAINING WILL CONTINUE FOR THEM. RIGHT NOW DONOT WORRY ABOUT THESE THINGS…PREPARE YOURSELF FOR WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO…DO NOT WASTE TIME ON THINGS WHICH ARE NOT IN YOUR HANDS…

55 Kumar August 1, 2009 at 8:02 am

RAJEEF,HAD I BEEN IN YOUR PLACE I WOULD DO JUST WHAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN “…engg. classes getting started on 10th. So, even if i get the call letter, either i must take a leave for 10 days, or upon denial, i will have to take T.C and go for interview ( of which there is no guarantee that I may get through.)!!!!!.”SO IT ALL DEPENDS AS TO WHEN MY CALL LETTER COMES AND HOW TO CONVINCE YOUR COLLEGE AUTHORITIES FOR TAKING LEAVE…YOU MAY TAKE LEAVE FROM COLLEGE ON MEDICAL GROUNDS AND GO FOR SSB…A NUMBER OF POSSIBILITIES WILL ARISE IF YOU THINK OVER

56 Rajeef August 1, 2009 at 8:57 am

Thanking U sir…
I Think this settles the matter for sometime, though, I will return to you , if any situation arises.!!!

sir,
i have been recently selected for ssb in army , sir i need to know onething ,can i give the civil service exam once i am in army???

Reply

62 Kumar August 24, 2009 at 12:50 pm

Earlier it was a practice where in defense officers used to give civil services exam and on clearing they used to quit from the forces but nowadays the scene is changed and these practices are no more allowed in the services. But it is still allowed for non commissioned ranks(lower ranks), but not for officers.

Let me tell you one thing, after serving for (say) 3 years you get selected in civil services and then you quit and join civil services . Now you start as a fresher. You might have been earning more money and your designation might be more than what you have landed through civil services. In this case you join in a post which was junior to your earlier rank. You must understand that defense and civil services are same in every aspect except for the nature of work involved. A lieutenant in the army gets paid the same amount an IAS gets on their first month salary.

I AM PLEASED TO KNOW OF YOUR INTEREST TO LEARN AND SUCCEED AT THE SSB , BUT I AM SORRY TO SAY THAT I DO NOT HAVE ANY CD’S /BOOKS FOR TRAINING YOU GUYS. I AM DOING THIS OUT OF MY FREE TIME AND WITH THE ONLY INTENTION TO HELP THOSE WHO ARE NOT ABLE TO GET THOSE GUIDANCE WHICH ACTUALLY MANY GET IN THE CITIES. SO I WOULD RATHER ADVICE YOU TO GO THROUGH MY ENTIRE BLOG PATIENTLY AND CAREFULLY TO GAIN ADEQUATE KNOWLEDGE TO CRACK THE SSB’S. THANKING YOU….

hey.. i have got a call for ssb interview for technical branch in the indian army..
my pcm % is 80, so i want to know if any preference would be given on it’s basis….??
and what should be my reply if they ask me why do i want to join army instead of any other engineering college.???
and i want your valuable suggestions for my performance at ssb??

DEAR RAVI, I THINK YOU MUST FIRST GET YOUR BASICS STRAIGHT. YOU MUST KNOW AS TO HOW TO ADDRESS AN ELDER ,LEAVE THE FACT OF ADDRESSING AN OFFICER.
ANYWAYS , ANSWERING YOUR QUESTIONS .,

1.YOUR PERCENTAGE STANDS GOOD TILL THE TIME THEY CALL YOU FOR SSB. ONCE YOU ARE THERE THEN ALL ARE CONSIDERED EQUAL AND FURTHER TESTS ARE CARRIED OUT. NO PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN IN THE SSB BASED ON YOUR PCM %. PREFERENCE IS GIVEN TILL THE TIME YOU ARE CALLED FOR SSB. I HAD GOT ABOUT 200 CANDIDATES WHO HAD SCORED MORE THAN 93% AND APPLIED FOR TECHNICAL ENTRY IN TO THE NAVY LAST YEAR, OF WHOM ONLY 18 MADE IT UP IN THE MERIT LIST. AND BETWEEN 85 TO 89 WE HAD AROUND 700 CANDIDATES OF WHOM 32 WERE SELECTED. SO YOU MAY MAKE OUT AS TO HOW MUCH YOUR PCM % IS IMPORTANT.

2.AND FOR YOUR SECOND QUESTION YOU MUST GIVE AN ANSWER THAT WILL MAKE THE INTERVIEWING OFFICER FEEL HOW MUCH YOU ASPIRE TO JOIN THE ARMY. THIS IS A PERSONAL QUESTION FOR WHICH THE INTERVIEWING OFFICER TRIES TO FIND OUT YOUR RESPONSE TO JUDGE YOUR MENTALITY. I CANNOT ANSWER FOR YOUR BEHALF ON THINGS PERTAINING TO YOUR PERSONAL FEELINGS. SO YOU BETTER FIND OUT A GOOD ANSWER ON YOUR OWN.

NO PROBLEMS DEVASHRI… IF YOU ARE DETERMINED AND HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE THEN YOU WILL GET SELECTED IN THE FUTURE ATTEMPTS… NOT COMPLETING FULLY IS NOT A BIG MISTAKE WHICH WILL TAKE YOU FOR REJECTION BUT , YES IF YOU HAD ATTENDED VERY LESS SRT THEN YES, THAT MAY BE A CAUSE… NEVERTHELESS YOU MAY GIVE A BETTER TRY NEXT TIME… I ACTUALLY DO NOT HAVE ANY IDEAS OF THE BOOKS THAT ARE IN THE MARKET FOR SSB, BUT YOU MAY FIND IT OUT BY YOURSELF… ITS NOT A BIG DEAL… FIND A BOOK WITH MORE ILLUSTRATIONS AND THAT WILL SAIL YOU THROUGH… ALL THE BEST

I AM TOTALLY UNAWARE OF THE MEDICAL STANDARDS AND ITS BARE MINIMUM STANDARDS… THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS WHICH DO NOT BOTHER US IN OUR DAY TO DAY WORK BUT MAY BE A HUGE PROBLEM CREATOR IN THE LONG RUN . SO DO NOT TAKE THINGS LIGHTLY, IF IT IS DECLARED A PROBLEM THEN I SUGGEST YOU TAKE PROPER MEDICAL CARE AND TREATMENT BEFORE YOU GO FOR SSB. I SUGGEST YOU MEET SOME DOCTORS OUTSIDE AND FIND OUT YOUR CONDITION BEFORE MAKING A FINAL DECISION…

Hello Sir,
Your Blog is quite helpful. I have my SSB on 5th october 2009 at DehraDun. I am quite in tension regarding this. Actually this is my first attempt, I have two years academic gap between +2 & my engineering. I want to know if question is asked about this then how should I answer? Further what kind of answer should be given for tell me about yourself kind of question, what kind of gesture should be maintained during SSB.
I have a request will you plz give some example of the words which are required to make sentence on first day of the SSB.

Reply

82 Kumar September 30, 2009 at 9:33 am

WHAT EVER I COULD UNDERSTAND FROM YOUR QUESTION , I THINK YOU HAVE DONE YOUR ENGINEERING AND THEN NOW LOOKING FOR JOB. AND BETWEEN YOUR 10+2 AND ENG YOU HAD A GAP OF 2 YEARS. IF ASKED ABOUT THIS THEN YOU MAY TELL HIM WHATEVER MAY BE THE TRUTH. YOU FIRST TELL ME WHY THIS SMALL THING IS TROUBLING YOU. I ADVICE YOU TO GO THROUGH MY ENTIRE BLOG AND THEN COME UP WITH DOUBTS PERTAINING TO IT. I CAN NOT GIVE YOU COACHING. I CAN GUIDE YOU ONLY. SO ASK DOUBTS . DO NOT ASK ANSWERS. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO.

SARATH, YOU HAVE GOT IN TO THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS JOINING NAVY. ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVOURS. NOW YOU HAVE TO PREPARE YOURSELF FOR YOUR SSB INTERVIEWS. ON THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF WHICH YOU WILL BE RECOMMENDED TO JOIN NAVY. ONLY THEN MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS WILL BE CONDUCTED. SO STOP WORRYING ABOUT THE FINAL STEP. SEE YOUR NEAR FUTURE . U HAVE TO PASS YOUR SSB. SO START THE PREPARATION. BY THE BY UNDERWEIGHT GUYS ARE NEVER REJECTED. ONLY OVERWEIGHT GUYS HAVE TO WORRY. YO ARE COMPLETELY FINE .

86 Kumar October 31, 2009 at 6:00 pm

POORNIMA, YOU NEED NOT WORRY AS TO WHAT THEY WILL THINK OR FEEL. YOU MUST TRY TO PUT YOUR WORDS SO STRONGLY AS TO MAKE THEM FEEL THAT YOU ASPIRE TO BECOME ONE. THIS CAN BE ACHIEVED BY TELLING THEM SOME INCIDENTS OR FACTS WHICH MOTIVATED YOU TO BECOME A DEFENSE OFFICER. HOWEVER SILLY MAY THAT BE, YOU MUST TELL EVEN THAT TO THEM ,THAT IT MAY SOUND SILLY BUT THATS HOW YOU GOT MOTIVATED TO JOIN THE FORCES. AN INCIDENT OR EVENT OR SOME ROLE MODELS FROM YOUR FAMILY OR RELATIVES WHO MOTIVATED YOU TO JOIN THE FORCES WILL MAKE THEM CONVINCED THAT YOU WISH TO JOIN BECAUSE OF THE FIRE FROM WITH IN YOU. ALL THE BEST.

thanksss a lot Sir …. u remind me of the quote

“he who gives me , teaches to me give”

got a few qns abt UES July 2010 and SSB….

1. Total number of vacancies/or total number of students who get selected throughout the country(under UES)?

2. If 300 people appear for SSB for five days…. around 100 get filtered out in Day 1 itself…. then how many will get selected out of the rest?

3. If any1 clears SSB , then passes Medical Test ( if the guy takes the test in the month of december) … When will he be given the Admit Card or confirmation letter? do we need to wait till June ??

4. now in the NAvy website the List of selected students for SSB ( but they have mentioned it as for the month of DECEMBER)…… so Sir, can i expect any more lists in the month of January ?? (which will have my name in it) ?

i hv cleared the ekt held on 25th oct, now i hv to appear in the ssb interview.
sir i know that i hv the inner josh to join the armed forces, but the prob is that i face problems in group discussions.
when i speak i feel lack of good sentences and words even thoush i m very familiar with the topic….
i m not a stammerer
but i stammer when i try to make people understand my points.
that was the reason i coudnt able to clear the interview in navy and gd in army.
sir does it mean that i dont hv officer like qualities??????
and sir y speaking is the only measure of judging a person’s ability to serve his nation?????
and my communication skills r also weak but i m working on it…

Reply

97 Kumar December 5, 2009 at 12:59 pm

STAMMERING DOES NOT MEAN LACK OF OFFICER LIKE QUALITY…IT HAS MORE TO DO WITH YOUR COMMUNICATION SKILLS….IT HAS TO DO HOW EFFECTIVELY YOU CAN PASS ORDERS TO YOUR MEN… BECAUSE AT A TIME OF CRISIS ,IF YOU START STAMMERING IT SHOWS THAT YOU ARE VERY UNDERCONFIDENT. IT WILL BE DIFFICULT FOR YOUR MEN(JAWANS) TO FOLLOW YOU, OR HOLD YOU IN HIGH STED AND ULTIMATELY YOU WILL LOSE RESPECT IN FRONT OF THEM BY MAKING A LAUGHING STOCK IN FRONT OF THEM!!!…DO NOT BE STUPID IN ASKING ME ‘IF SPEAKING IS THE ONLY MEASURE FOR JUDJING A PERSON’S ABILITY TO SERVE HIS NATION?’…,YOU CAN ALWAYS SERVE YOUR NATION WHERE EVER YOU ARE…IMMATERIAL OF WHERE YOU ARE WORKING GOVT. OR PRIVATE!!!!

I AM HAPPY TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE WORKING ON TO OVERCOME IT….ALL THE BEST

DEAR MANOJ, I APPRECIATE YOUR INTEREST WHICH YOU HAVE GOT TO JOIN THE FORCES…COMING TO YOUR PROBLEM , THE GOOD POINT IS THAT YOU ARE AWARE OF YOUR PROBLEMS…YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT IT AND PLAN YOUR ACTIONS ACCORDINGLY…ONE CAN DO WELL IN GROUP DISCUSSIONS IF HE HAS GOT THE NATURAL LEADERSHIP QUALITIES..BUT IF YOU FIND THAT YOU LACK SOME AMOUNT OF CONFIDENCE THEN YOU MUST PRACTICE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE…GIVEN THE SHORT TIME PERIOD YOU HAVE GOT BEFORE YOUR SSB, IT WOULD BE GOOD IF YOU CAN INDULGE IN SOME DISCUSSIONS WITH YOUR FRIENDS OR SOME ONE WHO CAN CORRECT YOU…YOU NEED TO HAVE A GOOD DATA BASE TO SPEAK CONFIDENTLY,SO READ UP AND KNOW THE WORLD AFFAIRS…MAY BE SOME PRACTICE BEFORE HAND AT SOME SSB TRAINING CENTRES MAY GIVE YOU CONFIDENCE…ALL THE BEST

IT IS VERY NECESSARY TO CARRY YOUR MARK SHEETS AND CERTIFICATES FOR SSB INTERVIEWS…BUT IN WORST CASE SCENARIO YOU MAY GO WITH OUT THE CERTIFICATES AND DECLARE TO PRODUCE IT BEFORE JOINING ACADEMY IN DELHI…IT MAY WORK OUT…BUT BY RULES YOU ARE TO CARRY MARK SHEETS AND CERTIFICATES.

Thank you for answering me,
Sir, please tell me what are worst case scenario, I am feeling confuse at this moment, I filled the CDSE form seeing employment news paper and it was indicating that people who are appearing for last year exams can fill up the form, but in my case the degree is almost completed but there is supplementary in 3rd semester which i already given and will get my result after the SSB interview. I can submit all my documents on the date they given for final year aspirants.
Do you have any idea what should i do for it after reaching SSB. Please help me; i don’t want to feel abashed on this issue in SSB

BECAUSE YOU WILL BE PUT THROUGH MANY OBSTACLES WHICH YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO CLEAR AS AN INDIVIDUAL, AS A SMALL GROUP AND AS A VERY BIG GROUP. AT EACH SITUATION YOU WILL BE ASSESSED FOR THE AFORE SAID QUALITIES. ALL THE BEST

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND AS TO WHY THEY HAVE TAKEN YOUR MARK SHEETS…YOU CAN FIRST ASK FOR YOUR MARK SHEETS FROM YOUR EMPLOYER BY WRITING,QUOTING YOUR PURPOSE OF JOINING THE ARMED FORCES STATING IT WAS YOUR AMBITION TO SERVE THE NATION HOWEVER STATING THAT YOU WILL ABIDE THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE BOND…IF YOUR REQUEST IS TURNED DOWN, THEN YOU CAN APPROACH A LAWYER AND HE MAY DO THE NEEDFUL… IN ANY CASE IF YOU ARE QUITTING BEFORE 3YEARS , THEN YOU HAVE TO ABIDE BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE BOND, WHICH YOU MUST BE WILLING TO DO.

122 Kumar January 20, 2010 at 7:06 pm

IT IS JUST A QUESTION TO CHECK WHAT SORT OF A PERSON YOU ARE AND WHOM ALL YOU TRUST….A PERSON WHO DOES NOT TRUST ANY BODY IS A FAILURE…A PERSON WHO DISCLOSES EVERYTHING TO EVERY ONE IS A LOSER….YOU NEED TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE AND THEN ANSWER THE QUESTION…A PERSON WHO GENERALLY CONFIDES TO HIS WIFE/MOTHER IS NOT LOOKED UPON AS A GOOD LEADER… THE BEST ANSWER IS TO GIVE A DIPLOMATIC ANSWER LIKE- FOR DIFFERENT MATTERS ONE CAN CONFIDE IN DIFFERENT PERSONS(MAY BE 2)….MAY BE PERSONAL THINGS TO HIS DAD AND OTHERS TO HIS CHILD HOOD FRIEND WHO IS A FARMER/ BUSINESS MAN WHO IS A VERY GOOD PERSON BY HEART…. THERE IS NO RIGHT/WRONG ANSWER TO THESE QUESTIONS…IT IS THE REASON YOU GIVE BEHIND THE ANSWERS THAT MATTERS!!!!

look jitendra,….lack of confidence is due to 3 things…you have to identify which…
1. language -english
2. knowledge- general awareness..if you do not have stuff to speak then you cannot speak at all
3. fear- if you have it then you are doomed

there are different ways to come out of each…identify your problem and let me know..i can advice you accordingly

its great to see a very enthusiastic youngster in my blog…welcome son….right now i would advice you to prepare well for your board exams with little extra emphasize on physics, mathematics, chemistry and English….. and next important thing to do is to buy a good question bank on previous nda exams…do not buy a q-bank if it has more than 350 pages …try to buy as small a book as possible…as bigger books cut down your interest to study…..so go through the previous papers and try to prepare for questions of geography, civics and history from manorma year book or csr year book…by preparing on those lines you can not only clear your nda exam but also you can top in that exam very easily..all the best…we shall start preparation for your ssb after your board exams or 2 months before ssb

Hello Sir,
I needed your help, actually i am not getting how many attempts are permitted for airforce and navy for commissioned officer and whether attempts in airforce will also be counted in navy and vice-verse.
So if i get some information on number of attempts it will be a great help for me.
Thank you.

Three screen outs made me realise that it has something, hence I wanted to know where and why I
did not make it

defence academy coimbatore

I gained confidence

see anurag stammering is not a permanent disorder…so people in the ssb expect you to speak without stammering…cos a lot of therapies are available these days to overcome stammering…so i dont think that ssb will recommend anyone with stammering..if the stammering is very minor level then it will not be a problem…but if it is too much, then it is a problem

Hi Sir, I have my SSB in Oct 20 for TGC-112 course and frankly speaking.. I was a lazy person and I m trying to change that habit and I dnt have a particular hobby as such but Bhangra (bagged 2 stage performances, choreographed the second one which was by best achievement and best day as i m not a professional dancer ) and football (no achievement) and recently helping my mother In kitchen( due to unemployment) , internet browsing, little news watching( due to my SSB interview), watching movies are some of the things which i repeatedly do. So plzz tell me wht i should probably convey whn abt my hobbies whn asked. My weakness is tht I sometimes stammer while speaking nt due to confidence though. I knw wht i hve to speak somtimes i just get stuck ( bt i tryin to improve tht too)

I also have myopia of -10. But cant risk the operation before selection due to financial reasons. I am fully aware of the SSB format.
In a nutshell, I am motivated to change as i feel tht if I want evrthng arnd me to change thn I will have to lead by example. I saw a post for B.tech and I applied and tht `s my reason to Indian army. Will it be ok if i write this…?

Hello Sir.
Regards,
I appeared for my first SSB at Bhopal in Aug. 2010,where I was conferenced out.
After returning from there,I analysed where I went wrong and learnt that I have not done anything different in my life.Grades are average and I haven’t participated in any sports activities nor have I learned any game. Now I am trying to learn one or two games/sport but still that thing can not be concealed that i did not took interest in any sports during my academic career. Now I am working in an IT firm in Mumbai and have cleared EKT and suppose to appear for AFSB at Mysore in November.I agree that participating in sports does not matter much, what matters is your personality and atttitude. But Forces doesn’t want those who haven’t achieved anything special in their life.So can you pleaes guide me in this regard.

Secondly,I want like to seek some advice of yours for Group Tasks(HGT,PGT,Comm. Task etc.) as my performance was not upto the mark in my last SSB.

Thanks

son..you have a wrong notion!!we want only averagers but not below averagers..we do not want exceedingly successful people we want peoplke who can make a difference to others..the biggest thing that we are looking for is a team leader..since in the sports field a persons leadership qualities tend to come out as a habit ..many people who are good ion sports get selected..

Hi.. Sir,
I’m a medical PG student. Recently i saw an ad about Observer & Pilot posts for short term commission in Aviation navy. As I’m totally new to this field I would like to know about all the details in a nut shell…
Actually u might be wondering y a medical student makes a controversial jump, nothing much IAF was always my passion but due to many reasons like poor physique, lack of activities, opportunities and many more I’ve been thrown off every where. So this time I don bother about my -ves, which doesn mean I’ll create history but wanna try it truly. I always wished to be a pilot…
I do like my present career too. but thinking to give a halt for that if i pass in this.
Hope U’ll give me a Light Of Hope… :)

NICE TO SEE THE SPIRIT IN YOU…THE OBSERVETHAT AND PILOT POSTS ARE VERY DEMANDING AND HIGHLY STYLISH PROFESSION…. SINCE NO MISTAKES ARE ALLOWED THE RULES AND STANDARDS OF WORKING ARE VERY STRINGENT..MANY PEOPLE GET OUT OF THE CADRE IN THE INITIAL TRAINING ONLY…SO YOU NEED TO PUT IN EVERY EFFORT IN THE INITIAL 2 YEARS OF JOINING INORDER TO SATISFY ALL STANDARDS AND BECOME A PILOT / OBSERVER….OBSERVER DOES NOT HAVE A CHANCE OF JOBS ONCE LEAVING NAVY..THIS CADRE IS NAVY SPECIFIC AND YOU WILL FIND THAT OUTSIDE THERE ARE NO VACANCIES FOR SUCH A SPECIALIST…MY SUGGESTION IS FOR YOU TO THINK IN LINES OF YOUR SPECIALISATION THAT IS MEDICINE OVER HERE…AND YOU BY MOST CHANCE WILL NOT ENJOY IT….

Namaskar respectable sir,
i m öne time conference out from allahabad 11ssb in may 2010.
There were many negative points due to which i think i couldn’t get selected such as i m all around 2nd division from 10th to graduation.
i m from up board, even my personal interviewer asked me as to why i got very less percentage(10th 57%,12th58% n b.a. 49.5%). I couldn’t give him an appropriate answer and became very nervous.all other shortcomings i cn remove bt this problem will allways exist.
My next ssb is falling on 2 dec 2010. I m in panic if the same qstn is asked. Will i be rejected on percentage ground? I m from a far off village still i ve improved my english a lot.
I m seeking for valuable guidance
it will b interesting for me to know about you.
thanks with respect !

you need to reherse the reply that you are going to give for this question over and over since you have told me that you go nervous on being asked this question..you will be askes this question…but your answer must send a message to the interviewer that out of all odds and difficulties you have managed to do your graduation..you may quote having done work at your family agriculture or some family business while doing your graduation in order to support your family…if the interviewer is satisfied with your reply then you make it in

1. Is written exam a process letting the upsc to just scrutany the applicants or is it a selection process.
2. Will the SSB standard be the same for SPL entry scheme too ?
3. I use to see more of defence kids are in the army ?Any preference given to them while preparing merit list
4. Is it better to go for SSB coaching classes or put to the board what u are in real?

Reply

316 Kumar March 18, 2011 at 2:30 pm

dear gopalakrishnan, to answer all your questons..
1.it is both…it gets you selected for your ssb and also enables to reject all those who have failed
2.yes, the standard will be the same
3.i donot think so..it is just the number of defence kids wishing to join the armed forces is more, than rest of the country and they sincerely apply and prepare for it than the civilian kids
4.it depends on you..after going through my entire blog if you feel confident you may go through with out any coaching..if yu still feel underconfident then you may go..it is totally personal

Sir ,
im motivated by my family to join in service ,because my pappa, grandpa was in army (rank:havildar),my uncle is officer and many more ,im in IAF as airman now. I have passed NDA exam but conference out for SSB interview .I had also applied for both army & navy TES but due to postal defect i didnt get the call letter in time. Then i got an oppurtunity to be in service, i chose to join in IAF but as airman , now I’ve completed my training .i scored 90% in 10th & 84% in 10+2 but not completed a degree yet. But my doubt is that ,
1.After taking a degree which are all the exams i can apply for to become an officer in IAF.
2.Does to attend a SSB interview as a airman is a curse ?
3.what to tell in interview for the question,”what is the reason for scoring less marks in 10+2 w.r.t 10th .”

Reply

343 Kumar May 26, 2011 at 10:37 am

1. u can take up lots of entries like the cds, coast gard entry and other service promotions to become a officer.in navy we have exams like HET , nda , special entry for sd officers etc. there must be enough opportunities to acheive this in the iaf also

friends literacy mean ability of a person to write and read national language.ins,t it . but this definition in India is quite diff rant. in India a person who is able to write his name is literate .
according to this definition India has a overall literacy rate of 75% approx which is quite good.as compare to our neighbor.Kerala is the Indian state having 100% literacy rate(according to census 2011) .friends literacy of India has increased in this census.
and hope this will continue to increase up to 100% not according to conventional definition but according to my definition.

I have been to SSB’s 4 times before, in which i was 3 times conferenced out and 1 time screened out. But all previous SSB’s where related to the Defense forces. Now after 2 yrs i again face the Selection board but this time for COAST GUARD. What i read in there advertisement the selection procedure seems same like SSB.
Can u pls tell me is the interview similar for COAST GUARD ?
And i find my self more calm and composed this time will this help me to clear?

Dear Sahil, you have got it entirely wrong!!!! you should not write the WAT in this way…. It needs to be in the form of a normal sentence with a hero/heroine. Eg:
1.DARK- RAJESH HELPED THE INJURED TO ESCAPE IN THE DARK NIGHT
2.HARD- HARINI WITH HER HARDWORK BECAME NATIONAL LEVEL PLAYER
3.HONEST- PRATEEK IS HONEST IN HIS JOB
4.BEAT- JACOB’S TEAM FINALLY BEAT HIS RIVAL BY 4-1
5.CHEAT- TASMEEN HANDED OVER THE CHEAT TO THE POLICE
ETC ETC

Nandana,
1. Try to reduce your weight as much as possible now. But, DONT WORRY. If you get temporarilty rejected you can reduce your weight in the time that is given for reducing your weight. Dont worry. There is always a solution to most problems. But more importantly you have to get selected.

Regards.

524 Farhan August 6, 2012 at 6:28 pm

Dear Sir,

I gave my ssb in Bhopal but unfortunately didn’t get selected. Now i have analysed my mistakes and improving on them. However i had 1 doubt still in my mind. The answers which i wrote in the SRT and WAT and TAT kind off matched with the ssb preperation books available in the market. This was purely a coincident. Can this match be a result of me getting not recommended? Looking forward to hear from your end.

Regards,
Farhan

Sir,
Presently I am working in Army .I am graduate in MLT and presently first year student of Msc.In army I have completed nine years and this time I am going to attend the SSB for SSC(NT).Sir in your article above you are advised to tell the truth to the IO.I belongs to a poor fam, my papa is an alcoholic for the last thirty years. My mam had lots of struggle in her life but she managed to schooling their two children well.I secured a good result(80%) in my 10th class and 96% in maths. After 10th I wished to go for higher secondary and further graduation but my parents pushed me to go for ploytechnic as it is job oriented. But I had difficulty in studying because I was from malayalam medium school, I failed in two subjects that shocked me because that was the first ever fail in my school, college life. Finally I lost my concentration in classes. That time I managed a part time job in a ration shop as a cashier which helped me pay fee for the college. Then I joined plus-two course with science as my subject.I tried to forgot all that was happened in polytechnic and concentrated in my study. My hard work helped me to secure a distinction in plus-two 82% and 92% in maths.I had no childhood ambition to join in defense. But situation in home was very poor and I was also fall in love with a class mate of plus-two.A Job was necessary at that time therefore I joined in Army at the first attempt. At that time I was not aware of any rank system in army. This job helped me to built a house of my own and to marry the one whom I loved. She was completed Bsc nursing and managed to join in defense as Lt.If I become an officer it will change our life, therefore this exam is very important in my life.sir is this life story can cause any negative effect on my interview? I waiting for your reply.Thanking you…Liyas K R

Also please let me know if i can work on some exta areas for tech entry. Please give me some tips on Psychology, as that’s athe area we are not able to know if we have underperformed.
