AVIATION CADRE ENTRY- BECOME A PILOT WITH OUT SPENDING A SINGLE PENNY

One of the most challenging, attractive and well paid job in the world is to fly an aircraft. According to surveys 57% of children in India below the age of 16 wish to become a pilot. It is the society, economic conditions, educational facilities and family conditions which makes them change their aim in life later on. I here by take this chance to help them accomplish their goals in life. One of the most important factors in becoming a pilot is the aptitude of the person for flying. Not everybody can fly an aircraft, and that too a fighter plane which can fly at few times the speed of sound. Therefore having the right aptitude and passion for flying will ease the process in becoming a pilot. Becoming a pilot in the armed forces is one of the most thrilling and most satisfying jobs  across the armed forces also.

VARIOUS AVIATION CADRE ENTRIES

There are a number of ways to become a pilot in the armed forces. It is a wrong conception that only air force has fighter aircrafts or for that matter even aircrafts, because in the present scenario the navy and army cannot operate without their own aircrafts. Now let me tell you as to the various entries that will lead you to become a pilot…

Ø CDS(Combined Defense Services) AIRFORCE

Ø CDS NAVY

Ø CDS ARMY

Ø NDA AIRFORCE

Ø NDA NAVAL ACADEMY

Ø NDA NAVY

Ø NDA ARMY

Ø Short Service Commission NAVY-Direct entry pilot

Ø COAST GUARD- GDPN

In the list above CDS AIRFORCE, NDA AIRFORCE and SSC NAVY-direct entry pilot are the three entries which are purely pilot entries and no one can deny you from flying unless you screw it up. The rest of the entries give you an option to opt for flying during your training time or your professional time and then become a pilot, but the basic nature of the entries is different. My sincere advise to all those flying aspirants is to make a through research on the nature of work of a navy, air force and army pilot and then apply for the same. It would be my pleasure to help you if you will come up to me with specific doubts in these fields.

I would like to make it very clear that the following entries will not lead you or give you an option later on in life to become a pilot in any of the forces…

Ø EDUCATION ENTRY

Ø LOGISTICS ENTRY

Ø ENGINEERING ENTRY

Ø ELECTRICAL ENTRY

Ø GARRISON ENGINEER ENTRY

Ø AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL ENTRY

Ø METEOROLOGY ENTRY

Ø LAW ENTRY

Ø ARMAMENT AND INSPECTION ENTRY

Ø ANY OTHER SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION

Ø AIRFORCE GROUND DUTY ENTRY

Hence candidates opting for the following should be fully prepared and should stop dreaming of becoming a pilot.

there is no requirement to join ncc…there are a lot of ways to become a pilot..in my previous articles i have written enough about them..

NareshRavula September 12, 2010 at 3:16 am

But if we Have ncc we get more preference than other people…
And also if we have 100 people selected for final selection,
there r only 50 seats are there so automatically they prefer to recruit the ncc guy’s only na. i dn’t hv enough money to take cpl ,, i would like to join in indian air force due to lack of money.

Hello Sir,
Thank You For such a wonderful guidence.
My Questions are:
1. I am studing currently in 10th std and i have myopia -2.5 and -1.0 correctable 6/6
what r my possibilities for becoming a permanant commissioned pilot in defence forces?
2. Can i undergo a LASIK surgury and become a pilot?
3. Can i opt for 10+2 b.tech course [PC]in navy and then have a LASIK surgury to become a pilot?

Reply

Uday Kumar June 16, 2012 at 6:17 pm

Dear Shrikar,

1. It is difficult son.
2. No. You can not.
3. You can opt for 10+2 tech (Direct SSB based on 10+2 marks) or NDA(navy) or Naval Academy (UPSC NDA exam) and join the executive branch. From there you can opt for becoming a pilot. By the time you get commissioned and eligible for flying the policy of the Navy might change and may be you will get a chance to fly!!!

Amith September 4, 2012 at 9:54 am

Hello sir,
I read your blog regularly and find it very helpful. I am doing B.E in bangalore and I am in my pre-final year.I have applied for the Navy via the ues entry for pre final year. What is the scope to join special forces(MARCOS) for ssc officers? Which branch should I join to have a better chance at it? Or should I get a permanent commission to get into the special forces? Thanks sir. 🙂

Reply

uday September 4, 2012 at 6:49 pm

Dear Amith, Only Permanent Commission officers can become MARCOS.. At the max a SSC officer can become a ship’s diver!!

Regards

Amith September 4, 2012 at 7:17 pm

Thank you for your speedy reply sir. Also , there was GD round a week ago. When can I expect the results sir? Are ssc officers given the opportunity to join civil services after retirement? You have also mentioned that navy officers are sometimes sent abroad to study viz royal war college. What exactly do the officers study there? Are ssc officers sent for such postings? Could you kindly redirect me to a post which tells me the differences between benefits of ssc vs pc officers? Again, thanks a lot sir:)

Sir, your article has been a source of valuable information, however, one of my friend just happened to tell me that the officers in the navy from SSC (Short service commission) are not allowed to fly fighter jets.
Since, I aspire to become a fighter jet aviator in the navy and fly jets like Mig-29K or Harrier, I am confused whether t go in for SSC or something else, If this is true, then please tell me the alternatives through which I will be able to become a fighter pilot in the navy..
Hoping for your reply, Sir!!
