SSB Interviews – Free Guide to Excel

by Uday Kumar on January 18, 2009

The fact that you are reading this article is that you are desirous of joining the defense forces. Let me congratulate you on your wise selection of my blog to go ahead for your preparations. Because you are going to receive techniques from a person who has attended 3SSBs and cleared all of them and was engaged in training activities for about four years in the defense academies. And I give you these techniques free of cost.

Now you may wonder as to why I am doing all this, the answer is simple. I am doing this to ensure that people who are actually interested should get proper guidance and should not be carried by the institutes which aim at making money.

Because the profession you are heading towards is not a profession but a way of life. Let your journey begin…Let me wish a very best of luck in your endeavor. Let me wish you in the traditional naval way by saying fair winds and following seas.

Get Free SSB Training from Me

To join as officers in the armed forces a person is to achieve some requisite standard in physical, educational, leadership and management qualities. A person before applying must confirm as to whether he is eligible in all aspects of educational and physical standard. Here when I say physical standard I don’t mean how strong he is or how athletic he is. All that I mean here is that one must be more than the minimal height that is kept as threshold and must not be too heavy (over weight).

Because we feel it is our responsibility to make one strong. As soldiers are not born but made. And when I say educational qualification, what I mean is that one must have scored more than the threshold percentage of marks. Now the leadership qualities, honesty, sincerity, management and teamwork are tested by a board of officers at the SSB.   In order to check these qualities a candidate is put through certain tests. These tests are conducted at the services selection board.

Here I will try to throw light on SSB tests only. SSB consists of basically three types of tests.

  • Psychology tests
  • Group tasks
  • Interview

Now we shall see how to face these tests in a systematic way. These tests are common to all three forces. SSB for Air force is conducted in Mysore and Varanasi. Army and Naval selections take place in Bhopal and Bangalore. Allahabad SSB is purely for Army. Here I would like to tell you to perform one important task right on the first day which you must do in order to come out with flying colours.  The task is to make maximum number of friends while your stay in Services Selection Board. You will be able to understand this tactic if you are a Mtv roadies viewer. Now lets go to business…

The SSB tests last for about 5 days (provided you don’t get screened out on day 1, which in any case you are not going to as you have become a member of my blog) and medical examination for another four days. Now let us see as to what happens in all these days.

DAY 1

The first day is called the screening day. The first day is the most crucial among all the five days because your stay for the rest of the week depends on your first day’s performance. The tests on the first day are psychology tests and group tasks. On being selected you will be retained for further tests while others who have failed will be sent back home.

DAY 2

The second day consists of psychology tests. These tests are of about 5 different types. I will explain in detail about these tests in the following articles. They vary from sentences formation to story writing and basically aimed at bringing out the basic instincts of the candidate.

DAY 3

The third day consists of mainly group tasks. Here group discussions, group coordination, projects as a group are to be carried out. A brief lecture on a general topic (random topics) will have to be delivered for about 5 min.

DAY 4

The fourth day is a very interesting day as far as I am concerned. The events for the day are group tasks and individual tasks which are aimed at checking the teamwork, josh and lateral thinking. The events are snake run, individual obstacles, group obstacles, group tasks, individual tasks and group planning. One must understand that the group events are aimed at bringing out the leadership qualities of a person. And these qualities will not be visible to the examiner if you sit silent and acknowledge to what others say.

DAY 5

The final and fifth day is the deciding day as to whether you will stay or you will be sent back home. Here a group of officers will carry out your conference. Wherein you will be called in a conference room and interviewed basically it consists of general questions regarding your stay and questions of same sorts. After which the results will be announced by lunch time and you will know as to whether you have made it or not.

INTERVIEW

The personal interview by the interviewing officer will be carried out on any of the day from 2 to 4. The interview is most important in the aspect that they carry maximum marks. And thorough preparation for interview is a must. The basic funda of interview is not to beat around the bush. If you are confident of the answer then go ahead. But if you don’t know the answer then it is better to say I don’t know rather than shooting shit.

The interviewing officer would be more than happy to see you confessing that you don’t know. It is also advisable to not stretch the topic into areas which you are not confident of. For example if you have played tennis only five times in your life and yet in order to show off  that you play tennis; you quote that your favorite game is tennis. Then son you are heading towards great trouble.

So be humble at the same time while show casing your positives. This is the most important part of any interview wherein people in order to showoff invite trouble.

My next article will lead you further as to approach these tests confidently.

EVERY TIME I WAS CONFERENCE OUT. THE FIRST TIME I WENT FOR SSB, THAT WAS AT ALLAHABAD, ARMY, I WAS QUITE CONFIDENT. AND PEOPLE (THE ONE WHO HAD TAKEN COACHING) TOLD ME THAT I WAS BORDER LINE CASE AS I WAS ASKED TO GIVE PREFERENCE TO MY PERFORMANCE IN ALL THE THREE TESTS.
THE 2ND SSB WAS AT MYSORE FOR NDA AND I DID EVERY OPPOSITE TO WHATEVER I DID IN MY 1ST SSB. ALL IN VAIN.
THE 3RD WAS AGAIN ARMY AT BHOPAL. I DID MY BEST THIS TIME. BUT AGAIN THE RESULT WAS THE SAME.
THEN I TOOK A BREAK AND THOUGHT OF FINISHING MY ENGINEERING. NOW I AM IN MY 4TH YR OF ENGG. AND THE 4TH ATTEMPT WAS ALL IN VAIN.
THIS TIME I UNDERSTOOD THAT ” ONE CAN BECOME A GOOD PERSON, BUT THAT DOESN’T MAKE HIM A GOOD OFFICER”. SO DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW. TELL ME SIR WHAT CAN I DO NOW. HAVE GOT A CALL LETTER FOR AFSB MYSORE AGAIN AND THE SSB IS IN THE MONTH OF FEB.

see Rohit, some times the smallest things which we do not pay attention to may get us into trouble…i had once a friend of mine who was following my blog and went for ssb three times and was conference out on all the attempts…when i made a detail study small things like shaving everyday, wearing proper dresscode , talking loudly and clearly were not followed by him…he in a very cool manner said that he does not do shaving everyday at home and that he only trims his beard…. i gave him a mouthful of scolding and told him to rectify all the defects and in the very next ssb he was able to clear…..so let me do a detail study on you also…so tell me more about your experience….eager to help you

it is high time you have come to my blog… still i shall help you sort out your problems…. you must try to find out what was wrong every time… see first of all in ssb they want real talents… they do not want people who were trained to do those tasks… so you must always try to show that you were not trained at all…you can even say that you are underpreviledged that you donot get opportunities to get trained(just to show that you are not at all aware of any training methods or answers) and so your answers can be taken to be genuine… secondly in the attempt to boss around in your gd(group discussion) donot over react or boss around others…that will show that you are trained and that is not your true self….i sincerely advice you to go through my comments, for various questions i have answered in the past…that will give you an idea as to how to prepare…you can learn from others ….take some time and go through my entire blog’s comments…start with this and we shall see more later…keep in touch

About my ssb…
sir i have been following the dress code, shaving, n i try to be loud and clear in general.
Detail:
would like to tell you about my hobbies.. web browsing, listening to music and cycling. i am a extrovert kind of person who is always surrounded with friends, good at making friends. extracurricular activities : paper presentation, singing, debate, extempore, drama etc.
games – TT, kho-kho, cricket, badminton. have got 2 siblings both elder. father is retd. from IAF as a JWO. mother a homemaker.
this was a bit of my PIQ.
about my GTO if i will say: would like to go step by step:
1st GD: initiated the GD and spoke around 4 – 5 times in the GD
2nd GD: didnt initiated bt was the 2nd person and again 4-5 times i spoke
military planning: final story was said by my friend. bt hav contributed to the plan.
lecture: was on AIDS except aids day i spoke everything and others appreciated it.
PGT: 1: i started
2: couldnt enter 1st bt had certain ideas
3: GTO stoped me by sending a person and discard one of my ideas.
4: was a gud one contributed my ideas and did well
HGT: nice ideas, was first to go in. and helped all to cross it.
command task: was about to clear and the GTO said that now your plan is broken. got puzzled for a while i guess. bt after two unsuccessful attempts was able to clear it in 3rd attempt.
Individual obstrucle : could do 8 and the rope climbing i was just a 10-15 inches away when the time got over.
snake race: we won the race. did well i guess.

rohit,
speaking how to prepare for psychology…the most important thing that you must understand is that , there is going to be a person who is going to judge you by reading your reply….what you write is taken to be a direct reflection of your character…so inorder to showcase yourself as the most extraordinary person with lot of officer like qualities you need to practse a bit…you must get in the habit of writing very fast ,certain sentences as words are dictated by some of your friends…. you need to write the story a nd the sentences in a positive form…the sentences must have a doer of action and also a good work being carried out…for every story and sentence that you write there is a requirement of a hero…. the psychologist consider yourself to be that hero….for eg.. if you need to write a sentence on apple then write-sam gave an apple to the child, rat- vivek killed the rat that caused trouble, temple- tom helped the old man reach the temple, steal- radha caught the thief stealing red handedly, etc…i understand that writing so elobrately will take lot of time, but we just can not help it…you need to wite very fast and you need to practise on that…the same to be followed in the picture perception tests also….what ever may be the picture, you need to write something good and positive only….you may write something not relating closely to the picture, but here mark is for what is your quality and not the quality of the story….understand this and get back to me

one more thing which i didnt mention is, i have never taken the coaching for SSB.

Sir,
First of all i salute to you for giving such a noble service and golden advices to all aspirents.Even my case is some what similar to Rohit.I have attended ssb 4 times.all conference out.I am a software egineer by chance in infosys but my first and last choice is always Indian Army.I am stuck with pschology. As per my understanding things were quite rite in past 2SSB’s but still i could not figure out the reason of rejection.Need help from you on how to clear pschology test.

Reply

Kumar February 3, 2010 at 10:11 am

hello chander,
A pschologist just wants the positive things in you. H e wont see you in person but he reads your mind through your writings. Its quiet an common fear which arises in minds of people going to give an interview as to how the pschologist will be tackling things. Its quiet the same all the time. In ssb interviews the conference is the place where your thought (pschology), word (interview) and action (tasks) are compared so your actual picture comes into light. It is in your hands what you show to the examiner the positives or negatives. e.g. when you see a knife what comes to your mind, is it person killing or a person cutting apple with it to eat. Every thing should be positive – story with happy endings , sentences with positive meaning. i hope you have quiet some experience with SSB so go ahead and give it a try. All the best

sir,
thanks a lot sir for spending your valuable time in writing and concerning about my problems. i ll start doing what ever you said right from now as i have very few days in my hand.

FROM WHERE DID YOU HEAR THESE STUFF….WHERE EVER YOU MIGHT HAVE HEARD THIS STUFF, PLZ TELL THEM NOT TO PROPAGATE SUCH FALSE IDEAS AMONG THE ASPIRANTS….DEAR VISHNU IT IS NOT TRUE….LOTS OF PEOPLE GET THROUGH IN THEIR SECOND /THIRD TIME ONLY

mahesh February 13, 2010 at 5:14 am

Respected Sir,
I have few questions as follows :-
1. During conference There is a gap for waiting to enter the hall. Some say that Results are already discussed in detail night before, so I found that for some people the gap before entering was more and for some it was less. so what do they discuss in that gap – the student who left or the one who is waiting.
2. They say that army is looking for AVERAGE PEOPLE not the high/low performers. So does this mean we should underplay ourselves or so.
Regards,
Mahesh.

Reply

Kumar February 13, 2010 at 9:17 am

1. NO THE RESULTS ARE NOT DISCLOSED UNTIL THE CONFERENCE…THEY ARE NOT DISCUSSED THE NIGHT BEFORE.
2.THEY SPEAK ABOUT THE CANDIDATE WHO IS GPING TO COME.
3.IF THEY FIND THE CANDIDATE IS IN THE BORDER LINE TYPES, THEY DISCUSS WITH EACH OTHER AS TO WHAT TO DO WITH HIM… AS TO WETHER A CHANCE MUST BE GIVEN OR NOT…
4. IF THEY FIND THAT HE MUST BE GIVEN ANOTHER CHANCE, THEN THEY MIGHT ASK THE CANDIDATE SOME QUESTIONS TO MAKE THE FINAL JUDJEMENT OF THE CANDIDATE
5.NOTHING LIKE THAT EXISTS AS FOR MY KNOWLEDGE….IT IS THAT WE DO NOT WANT REVOLUTIONARIES OR GUYS WHO THINK THEY ARE TOO HI-FI….BECAUSE THOSE GUYS ARE LIKE A DISEASE WHO SPREAD THE DISEASE WIDE AND FAR.
6. WE SAY THAT WE WANT AVERAGE INDIVIDUALS …..AVERAGE HERE MEANS NORMAL HUMAN BEINGS….WE JUST DO NOT WANT BRAINY CROOKS AND GUYS WHO THINK THAT THEY ARE NEXT IN LINE TO TOM CRUISE OR BILL GATES(BELEIVE ME THERE ARE SUCH GUYS…WHO SAY THAT “I THOUGHT THAT THE ARMED FORCES REQUIRES ME, SO I THOUGHT I MUST JOIN IT …”)
7. IT HAS GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF ANY INDIVIDUAL….IT HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE ATTITUDE OF PEOPLE ONLY.

mahesh February 13, 2010 at 4:31 pm

Sir,
I’m highly thankful for your reply. I’ve few other questions :-
1. In lecturette I spoke slowly, confidently, loudly but less knowledgeable matter on topic. Was it fair ? Does the GTO give marks on knowledge or way of speaking before group ?
2. I realize my mistakes done,am rectifying them and hope to get selected in next attempt. How easy or tough it becomes for repeaters ? Or is it the same approach by accessors ?
3. which type of candidates get selected in GTO a) who perform great in some tasks but less in other b) overall equal in all. For eg. One does great in GD 1 but not spoken in GD 2. great in PGT but poor in FGT etc.

Reply

Kumar February 22, 2010 at 4:47 pm

1. THEY SEE HOW YOU SPEAK, YOUR CONFIDENCE AND BOLDNESS ARE CHECKED….KNOWLEDGE F THE SUBJECT MATTER IS COVERED AT LAST….

2. IT IS THE SAME FOR EVERY ONE…NO DIFFERENCES

3.YOU MUST PERFORM EQUALLY WELL IN ALL TASKS….YOU MUST DO ALL THE TASKS WITH EQUAL IMPORTANCE AND EQUAL RESULTS

SIR,

In THE GROUP PLANNING EXERCISE I have few questions to ask you:-

1. Does the GTO evaluates his decision ( about good or bad plan/ shortcomings in plan written ) after checking the plan we write on paper , as I find that the group discussion immediately starts after writing. Maybe he checks the papers afterwards.
2. If the person chosen by the group make changes/forgets the plan discussed, and someone points it what impact it does on GTO.
3. At last when GTO asks for any changes in plan, if ONE finds that the group has forgotten some problem or anything else OR if the plan could have been better in time utilizing CAN WE SAY IT AT THAT POINT. does it show that I am not a team player that I am not supporting my group decision OR does it show that I have the courage to stand for the better plan for group.

Reply

Kumar March 10, 2010 at 11:39 am

1. you must understand that writing and discussing are altogether two different things. so do not confuse with them. the gto may not read immediately, but later on he may read it.what he sees in the discussion is leadership qualities and what he sees in the written part is strategic thinking.

mahesh March 12, 2010 at 8:16 am

Sir,

1 .Last time one candidate was asked in conference that at the ranking scale of 1 to 10 how would you rank your performance ? Should he have to say NO.1 or average performance no.5 or can do better than this ?

2 . In THE GROUP PLANNING EXERCISE
At last when GTO asks for any changes in plan, if ONE finds that the group has forgotten some problem OR if the plan could have been better in time utilizing CAN WE SAY IT AT THAT POINT. does it show that I am not a team player that I am not supporting my group decision.

Respected sir,
I want to get selected for permanent commission army(tech).I am an Electronics engg.I’ve 3 questions regarding this:-

1. If I go for OTA chennai SSC tech course-How will I get permanent commisson.Or should I focus only for IMA dehradun permanent commission entry.

2. I am preparing myself physically fit & strong. What are the special areas during training.I’ve heard GC’s undergo martial arts training.

3. What is the work of an electronics engineer in Corps of signal. I donot like office work of 10:00 to 5:00.

Reply

Kumar April 23, 2010 at 11:00 am

if you go for ssc entry then getting permanent commission has become these days..
not at all…if so then please let me know…who told you this??? may be i must also boast of as a martial arts specialist..ha ha ha
it is exactly not a office work type of a thing…it has much to do practical also

ajay April 23, 2010 at 7:26 pm

sir,
I got the 2nd and 3rd answers,but I didn’t get the 1st one.Please elaborate.
They say that after 10 years of SSC service one can opt for Permanent commission.
What is the procedure for this.

Reply

Kumar April 24, 2010 at 9:54 am

there are options for getting into permanent commission, but the problem is that only a few get pc after 14 years of service..it is all based on performance, requirement in that branch for officer of that rank, your merit and a lot of your past records..all these factors must suit to get a permanent commission….it is not a impossible thing but also it is not a very easy thing….

ajay April 24, 2010 at 4:02 pm

Thank you sir,my last question regarding SSC.
So What is the career option after leaving ssc as an army officer.
Are they demanding in outside world when they are to leave SSC in their 40’s.
Then why does the forces say they are shortage in officers when an officer who put his blood for men when he was young and then he has to leave SSC for the reason he has grown old.

Reply

Kumar April 29, 2010 at 1:09 pm

THE SHORTAGE OF OFFICERS IS IN THE JUNIOR RANKS…A SENIOR OFFICER DOES NOT HAVE TO TOIL AND WORK HARD AS A JUNIOR OFFICERS…SO THERE IS SHORTAGE IN THE JUNIOR RANKS AND MORE WORK IS THERE FOR A JUNIOR OFFICER THAN A SENIOR….A SENIOR OFFICER DOES NOT INVOLVE IN COMBAT OPS AND HE IS INVOLVED IN MORE OF ADMIN WORK ONLY…HENCE YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THE LOGIC OF SSC ENTRY

ajay April 27, 2010 at 8:36 am

Sir,
Please reply to my last question for SSC.i am waiting for your guidance.

My friend joined marines after class +2 his service of tenure is 15 years, he has 7 years of his service left. i asked him what’ll he do after that.he said maybe a security guard or else.he is a commando right now, when he’ll retire he’ll be not be much active and demanding as now.what are the options in front of him after that?
a commando who fought for country ends up as a security guard, and as far as i am concerned if i get SSC tech engineers entry, i would end (may be/may be not) in some private company/factory again after 15 years.is this the honour for which a soldier/officer ends up ?

and that is the only reason i don’t want SSC only PC,because i want to serve country with honour and in response recieve honour for my work.

Thank you sir.

NICE THOUGHT AND STRONG WORDS …BUT THIS IS THE WAY OUR COUNTRY WORKS AND I BELIEVE WE ARE STILL A DEMOCRACY…SO NO POINT CRYING OVER THINGS WHICH ARE WAY BEYOND OUR CONTROL…BECAUSE WE CAN NOT FIND ANY SOLUTIONS TO THIS QUESTION…BUT I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU THAT A SMART PERSON WILL FIND A PLACE WHERE EVER HE GOES…SO IF YOU ARE SMART AND AFTER 15 YEARS YOU WILL GET A VERY WELL PAID AND VERY GOOD JOB…YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT YOUR FRIEND HAS JOINED SERVICES AS A SAILOR/JAWAN…IF HE WOULD HAVE JOINED AS AN OFFICER THEN I BET, THAT HE MUST HAVE TOLD YOU THAT HE WILL JOIN AS A SECURITY OFFICER…SECURITY OFFICERS IN BANKS AND OTHER GOVERNMENT ORGANISATIONS ARE GAZETTED OFFICERS AND ARE WELL PAID…SO DO NOT COMPARE A SEPOY/SAILOR ENTRY TO A OFFICER ENTRY..AND ALSO A SECURITY GUARD TO A SECURITY OFFICER

ajay April 30, 2010 at 2:13 pm

Sir, I got the point and now my mindset is clear. Now I am not thinking about SSC or PC entry, whichever opportunity comes first, I’ll go for it with full efforts and get selected. If I had the caliber it’ll be noticed later. I respect the decision of the forces, after all they need the right officers to protect the nation and it cannot be taken granted on any condition.
And for my friend I’m sure he’ll also find some way later.

I am in a deep trouble right now.According to recent tgc112 advertisement in employment news 1-7 may, in visual standards it’s mentioned myopia not more than -1.50 including astigmation , is it a ammendment in visual standards by indian army or correction in newspaper, as previously it was -3.50……please reply as I am having myopia -2.0 in both eyes ……..

Sir, I will be having my SSB this month but i haven’t yet received my call letter. This will be my first time with SSB. I am confused whether to be what i am at SSB or try to write every sentence in a positive way. What do you mean by conference out and screened out???

Reply

Kumar October 6, 2010 at 11:50 am

screen out means that you were sent home on the first day only after a few tests..but conference out means that you give the tests for 5 days and then at the end of the fifth day when the final results are being anounced you come to know that you are not selected…if you clear the conference then you will undergo medical examination for 4 to 5 days and then you will be recommended by that board..

respected sir,…..i m sorry,bt i ignore all these stuff,on watever, guys r discussing like stupid muggers.i believe dat a good person must hv some certain qualities, which make him a true officer of armed forces,so i dnot need to worry a lot.they must understand dat, these qualities cannot be devlop,it can only evaluate.it should not be a wonder dat the recommendation ratio hit the scale at 12:1 candidate per batch,so wat can u do?,the SSB selection panal is highly experienced nd smart too.they r very clear in ther selection procedure.

ok,i hav craped too much nd bother u a ton.so mine problem is dat i hv six fingers on my left foot,i wanna know how, it will be treated in medical fitness test?,will it be a unfit object,or anyway?…….i need ur help

Reply

Kumar November 8, 2010 at 2:59 pm

yes it will be taken seriously and you will be considered unfit..you may get it operated and get it removed or if you can convince the medical officer(a doctor) that you have no problem with it then there will be no problems

Hello Sir,
I feel happy that someone like aims at providing the best candidates to armed forces by rectifying their qualities. I have been waiting for the SSB TGC entry on my MCA qualification and now when I got a call letter it turns out to be my last attempt due to age and also the post is lieutenant and not captain. But I still want to clear the SSB. My centre is allahabad. My brother was a GC but due medical injury he got out. He has described me of the process of SSB already. My problem is though I am not coached I still no a lot about the process, and this being my first and last attempt I don’t wish to lose it. I have never worked in a big software company, which could have given me the courage. Though I am confident I am a little worried about how to behave i.e whether intelligent or innocent. Though I haven’t worked anywhere I run an organization of my own with a staff of 20 members, will it be a plus point?

Abhishek Sasan April 30, 2012 at 7:05 am

Sir, first of all I would like thank you for sharing your experiences. I request you to please help me out , in my case i got screened out in the very first attempt(on 2 Aug 2011) and conference out in the next attempt(on 19 april 2012) . After getting screened out i rectified what exactly went wrong. Then i observed that i fumbled in the narration and didnt show interest in the PPDT Disucssion so i got screened out. Then i started preparing for next attempt , started reading newspapers, writing stories , practiced WAT , met my friends who are commissioned officers , took guidance from an Ex-Psych but still after doing all this i got conference out. The worst part and experience was the candidate who was shouting in the GD , GPE and didnt even gave a single idea in PGT gt selected . Sorry for discussing this thing but what i am trying to say is i wrote positive stories , attempted WAT , did 41 SRT’s , gave creative ideas during PGT , completed 8 individual tasks , converted a fuzz of a GD into a logical discussion by convincing everyone , not only this after the command task since i performed it within 1 minute the GTO himself said good and about the interview i wasnt able to answer only 1 question apart from that i wasn’t nervous at all i confidently faced the interview and moreover enjoyed it and at the end of interview the IO said it was a good interactive interview (Sir , even I didnt frgt the rapid fire sequence fortunately i was able to answer all of them ) .

Sir I request you to please judge my answer to a question :
IO : Why do you want to join Indian Navy
Me : I want to join Indian Navy because it offers a rip roaring life as it is three dimensional . Secondly in my family my grandfather (Retd as Col) , my Phupha ji (Serving as Brig) and other relatives in the Air force(Grp Capt) as well but I have not seen any commissioned officer in the White dress and I like this dress very much. So after joining Indian Navy I ll have a distinct personality in my family and will continue my family tradition of serving the nation via defence forces as well.

Do you feel it was a relevant answer or not ?

This is all about my experience I m passionate about Joining Indian Navy. Sir please help me out.

Sir, I am ashutosh kumar from vadodara.
I am doing my BE in electrical engineering. Recently I went to SSB Bhopal for TES 27 selections. I was screened in and was retained for 5days testing. I gave more than I had expected in all the tasks but was stucked at 2-3 moments in the interview. Finally the result was that 4/30 were selected and I was conferenced out on 2/5/2012.
This was my 4th attempt sir,I have previously appeared at Allahabad for 2 times and screened out in both and once at 20SSB bhopal itself for TES-26 and was conference out in that also..
Sir, after getting rejected 4times, I am disturbed a lot and cant focus properly on other things..
Kindly analyse and tell me my weak points so that I may do well in Air Force SSB which I would be giving after my graduation..
And Sir,does the physical built also matters for recommendation of a candidate?

Dear Ashutosh, you have told me so much less and have asked me to analyse your mistakes…. plz provide some more information inorder for me to help you find out your mistakes

Ashutosh Kumar May 12, 2012 at 8:06 am

Sir, I am a student of engineering in vadodara and I am living in a hostel. In my attempt at 20SSB Bhopal for TES 26..our gto LT COL TRIPATHI said me after command task about my being overweight and he said “commander, you look like a baby elephant but I am sure if u reduce your weight you will surely make your way into the academy”. That time I was 89kg and I felt myself also that I didn’t do well in the individual obstacles and group obstacle race, in my individual obstacles, I did tiger leap, commando walk, double ditch, jumping over ramp, double jump. In that attempt I was conference out that time and I came back but I could not do much to reduce my weight but used to do push ups and sit ups.
This time when I went to 20SSB Bhopal again for TES 27, I was 81kgs and did good everywhere also in the GTOs tasks and the interview. This time in the individual tasks, I did tiger leap, commando walk, double ditch, jumping over ramp, double jump, high jump, Tarzan swing. In the group obstacle race also, I did not let myself become a burden on the group and helped everybody go up the walls first and then came on the wall. In the group tasks and command task also, I performed well. In the PGT, HGT and FGT, I gave good ideas and was the first to work upon my own and on other’s ideas as well…In my command task, I completed the task without taking help of my subordinates and within the stipulated time. In the interview, taken by the DY PSDT COL Bhaskar, I was asked for the reason why I wanted to join the army and I told him that I want to become a commando…on this, he asked me if I know about the physical fitness that the commandos need…I told him that I know I am overweight and am trying to reduce my weight. Then he quizzed me on the weapons that PARA commandos are having and I replied “MP5 SMG, Tavor, 9mm Bretta Pistol, INSAS assault rifle…” then he asked me about my teachers and if I disliked any of them. I replied that I didn’t like a teacher named MR.Dubey, and when he asked for the reason why I hated him, I told him that he used to scold us badly without any reason and used to cut marks irrelevantly. Then he asked the same question regarding friends and I told him that there is a friend of mine who lives next to my hostel room and he smokes and drinks heavily in night and then disturbs us…then there were some general questions asked to me on my family and friends..
When he asked me if I wanted to ask anything, then I asked his name and he does not answered me directly rather he asked me to ask the person who was sitting outside…After this, the interview was over…
I would like you to assess my mistakes based on this, so that I may also come under the successful candidates list next time… 🙂

Hi Uday,

I gave ssb 10 times . 6 times conference out and 4 times screened out. When I introspected myself I found out that I am a kind of guy who doesn’t get much attention. I have few but close friends whose company I like, However I am not that much comfortable with those guys who doesn’t give me respect.

As far as I know In defence we need to zeal with all kind of people. So it might be a reason that I am not getting selected in SSB. Can you suggest me something.

Respected Sir,
I’m two times conference out both from Air Force & Army. Sir, I haven’t gave any SSB in last 2 years due to work pressure. But, this time I have worked on my weakness i.e prepared well for TAT, WAT, SRT & SD, got details on latest affairs.
Sir, How should I proceed now sir?
If they asked my gap of 2 years, Getting conference out in last 2 SSB. How should I answer them?

Hi sir,
I salute you for your help for us.

1)
I’m working in an MNC as a software developer.I have my first and last AFSB very soon. I could pass a written exam(AFCAT) after 3 years of preparation.I have confidence that I can perform well. I want to speak truth with our interviewing officer but I did a mistake in my life. It is that when I was about to appear my NCC B exam my seniors told me”we need to prepare for the exam examiners will help us”. yes they helped us but I have failed in that exam. Next year I could pass it by my own preparation but I could not attend my NCC C as I have joined MNC.

Can I share it with him?

2)
Sir as it is my last attempt. If I wont be recommended I want to become the president of India because it is my aim to become a pilot or at least an officer because When I did my NCC “A” I have totally changed and I get interested to serve the people, I got discipline and I started working sincerely. Now also I feel proud to have such attitude.

Can share it with IO?

3)
Please tell me if you were an IO what will you think about it?

Respected Sir,
i m 19 yrs old pursuing b.tech.(ME) 2ND YEAR, i thought to appear in nda after 10+2 but unfortunately i met with an accident in 12th, i got fracture in left leg and got a nail inserted in my leg which is to be remove in coming months, my leg is repaired but it is not as natural as before i.e; the joining of broken bone didnt take place as it was before it is bit(1-2degree) displaced from original position at point of fracture but i can walk properly, run properly (at present a bit slow) jump normal heights, i m planning to appear in cds2016(in 4th year of b.tech.) so how my case will be treated in ssb&medical tests. i reallly want to join army for officers ranking not just for money but for my country’s pride and for my self-respect to proof my qualities so plz guide me the way
