Training Institutes of Indian Armed Forces

iaf trainingIndian Army is the third largest army of the world. Every year thousands of young boys and girls join the Army. National Defence Academy is the Tri-service academy which trains the male officers of all the three forces- Army, Navy and Air Force. After passing out from NDA, army cadets go for further training at Indian Military Academy.

IMA also recruits cadets through UPSC and technical entries. Officer’s Training Academy is both for men and women who train together for Short Service Commission. After passing out from their respective academies, officers go for further specialization in army training institutes.

  • Officer’s Training Academy: Chennai and Gaya
  • Defence Services Staff College: Wellington
  • Armed Forces Medical College: Pune
  • Infantry School: Mhow
  • Rashtriya Indian Military College: Dehradun
  • Artillery Training: Deolali, Nasik
  • Army Ordnance Corps School: Jabalpur
  • Army Cadet College: Dehradun
  • College Of Defence Management: Secundrabad
  • College Of Military Engineering : Kirkee,Pune
  • Armoured Corps Centre And School: Ahmednagar
  • High Altitude Warfare School: Gulmarg
  • Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School: Vairengte, Mizoram
  • Army Medical Corps (AMC) Centre and School: Lucknow
  • Military College Of Telecommunication Engineering: Mhow
  • Army Air Defence College: Gopalpur
  • Army/ Air Transport Support School: Agra

  • Military Intelligence Training School and Depot: Pune

Air wing cadets of NDA join the Air Force Academy for further training. Candidates also appear for CDS exam conducted by UPSC to get admission in AFA. There is also an AFCAT exam conducted by Air Force to recruit candidates. Female candidates are also trained in AFA only. AFA also trains the pilots of Navy and Coast Guards. After passing out from AFA, the candidates go for further training at the below mentioned training institutes for specialization in a particular field.

  • Flying Instructors School: Tambaram
  • Elementary Flying School: Bidar
  • Indian Air Force Test Pilot School: Bangalore
  • School of Aviation Medicine: Bangalore
  • Air Force Technical Training College: Jalahalli, Bangalore
  • College of Air Warfare: Secundrabad
  • Pilot Training Establishment: Allahabad
  • Air Force Administrative College: Coimbatore
  • Paratrooper’s Training School: Agra
  • Fighter and Transport Training Wings: Hakimpet and Yelahanka

As, discussed earlier NDA also trains naval candidates who further go for further training to Indian Naval Academy. Indian Navy is planning to expand itself and it recruits candidates in various fields. Male and female candidates are trained together at INA. After passing out from INA, they further go for specialization training in the below mentioned training institutes.

  • INS Dronacharya (Gunnery School): Kochi
  • INS Garuda (Aviation School): Kochi
  • Naval Institute of Educational and Training Technology: Kochi
  • INS Hamla (Logistics Training): Mumbai

Indian Coast Guard Training Institute

Currently, the Indian Coast Guard Academy is under construction in Azhikkal, Kerala. The officers of Indian Coast Guard undergo basic military training at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala along with the officers of Indian Navy. The enlisted personnels in ICG receive training along with the naval sailors at INS Chilka. All the training undertaken by Coast Guard officers and sailors are the same as those under taken by Naval officers and sailors.

sir can u explain the benefits of OTA over IMA. or is it a foolish thing to join army through SSC

I Have done diploma in house keeping and B.B.A in distance education .so kindly please tell me i am eligible or not for upsc exam .otherwise which of the central board exam i can write.

My daughter n son presently studying in 4 & 3 std respectively. I just want to know the course which conduct in nsvy nagar colaba on every sundays from std6 to 9.

Dear Sir,
i want to ask two things regarding ssb.
1. Sir on what basis the all india merit list is prepared after getting recmnded. Is the marks of CDSE also counted.
2. Sir i have color blindness. Can i join defence. Presently i am doing b.tech in electrical engg.
I am very thankful to you if u help me please sir
